Greenfield Saw Nearly 7 Inches Of Rain In Storm

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office reported a full freeway closure on I-43 due to flooding just before 11 p.m. Sunday.

GREENFIELD, WI — Greenfield saw nearly seven inches of rain over a 24-hour period after a Sunday storm moved through the area, causing flooding in area basements, roads and temporarily caused an I-43 shutdown.

According to the National Weather Service, two observation points recorded more than six inches of rain. One in northeast Greenfield recorded 6.78 inches of rain, and a second in a northern part of Greenfield recorded 6.40 inches of rain.

Only a 6.55-inch 24-hour rainfall total in Greendale over that same time frame came close to the rainfall totals experienced in Greenfield, according to the NWS.

According to a JSOnline report, Greenfield Fire Chief David Stabbe said they received "at least a dozen calls" about flooding in local basements, and one car got stuck in flood waters on S. 76th Street near Southridge Mall.
