Greenfield Trick Or Treat Time And Halloween Safety Tips

GREENFIELD, WI — Wisconsin's fall foliage has started to turn and we are inching ever closer to Halloween. Greenfield's trick or treat will soon be here whether you're looking for candy or just expecting to give some out.

In Greenfield, the 2021 citywide trick or treat is planned to take place 4-7 p.m. on Oct. 31.

The date and time is the same as last year's, although last year's almost didn't take place because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Greenfield still saw a trick or treat in 2020, but it was with some adjustments and suggestions for safety. While 2021 may see a more normal return to trick-or-treat, the pandemic isn't over yet.

Here are some tips from the CDC for a safe trick or treat:

• Wear a mask. Costume masks are not a substitute for other masks. Masks should not be worn by those under two.
• Wash your hands and sanitize them in between houses.
• Stay six feet away from anyone who doesn't live with you.

The City of Greenfield also published some safety tips for a great trick or treat:

• Young children should always go trick-or-treating with an adult.
• Never trick-or-treat alone. Have at least 2 buddies go with you.
• Plan your entire route and make sure your family knows what it is.
• Make sure that you are wearing a flame-retardant costume.
• Wait until you get home and your parents check your candy before you eat it.
• Be very cautious of strangers.
• Accept treats only in the doorway. Never go inside a house.
• Be sure and say thank you for your treats.
• Don't play near lit jack-o-lanterns.
• Visit only houses where the lights are on.
• Walk, do not run.
• Walk on sidewalks or driveways.
• Cross the street at the corner of in a crosswalk.

We're now less than two weeks out from Halloween in Greenfield. Adult or kid, if an extravagant costume is in the making, time is ticking. For those that have no costume plans yet, there is no shortage of costume retailers. Three Spirit Halloween stores are open near Greenfield.
