Hit-And-Run Suspect That Killed Mom Turns Self In: Police
Police say Monica Hernandez died when a truck driven by Juan C. Mata-Chavez collided with her car. Mata-Chavez turned himself in yesterday.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Police say that the man accused of a fatal hit-and-run accident Sunday that resulted in the death of a 43-year-old Milwaukee woman has turned himself in.
According to police, Juan C. Mata-Chavez, 27, turned himself in on Thursday.
Police say Monica Hernandez, 43, was driving home from church with her 14-year-old son when their Toyota was struck by a blue Dodge Ram driven by Mata-Chavez.

According to police, Mata-Chavez was driving his Ram pickup truck east on W. Lincoln Avenue at a high rate of speed Sunday when he lost control and collided with a Toyota Corolla driven by Hernandez. According to surveillance footage, the Ram slid perpendicular to the driving lane, colliding with the Toyota before going airborne and colliding with several parked cars.
Nancy Andrade started a GoFundMe Memorial Campaign for the family after the fatal crash took the life of Hernandez. She wrote, "Thankfully my cousin is alive but he lost the most important soul in his life. I would like to raise money for her funeral cost. Whatever you can give we are grateful for. " In a little less than a day, 233 people have donated half the amount of money sought by the family, according to the site.

Mata-Chavez was identified by police on Tuesday, and has been charged with knowingly operating a vehicle While Revoked-Causing Death and Hit and Run Resulting in Death in connection with this crash. A warrant for his arrest has been issued on Tuesday. Police say that Mata-Chavez was driving with a revoked license.
Milwaukee police are reporting that after the crash, the occupants of the Ram, including Mata-Chavez fled the scene on foot. Hernandez suffered serious injuries and later died at a local hospital. A 13-year-old boy who was in the Corolla suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
Police say that one of the passengers of the Ram, a 23-year-old woman, turned herself in late last night.
