New Look Coming To 76th Street, 3 Demolitions In The Works

GREENFIELD, WI— The Planning Commission is considering a slew of demolitions Tuesday.

First on the agenda is the request to demolish the former Applebee’s restaurant, a vacant building located at 5100 S. 76 Street.

UW Credit Union has purchased the former 1.07-acre Applebee’s restaurant parcel, and plans to demolish the building before winter, and build a new UWCU branch building in Fall 2021, according to city records.

Applebee’s permanently closed in March at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A conceptual site plan has been submitted, showing an approximate 5,500 sq. ft. new UWCU branch building in the same general vicinity as the existing restaurant building, city records show.

The credit union will include four drive-up lanes on the east side of the building and approximately 36 parking stalls. The building design will be similar to other new construction locations, such as in Franklin, according to the city.

UWCU tentatively plans to open the new branch in Spring 2022.

Staff recommends that this item be expedited to the October 20th Common Council meeting for review.

The group will also consider demolition plans for the vacant office building located at 5111 S. 76 Street.

The property owner of the vacant two-story office building is proposing to demolish the building after years of unsuccessful soliciting for tenants, according to city staff notes.

The owner indicated that they believe the removal of the aging building increases the opportunity for redevelopment, but at this point there is no future redevelopment plan. However, the owner intends to continue ownership and solicit for a tenant to build new, according to city records.

Staff recommends that this item be expedited to the October 20th Common Council meeting for review.

And finally, the commission will consider demolition plans for the former Traditional Pancake House, a vacant building located at 5121 S. 76 Street.

The property owner of the vacant former Traditional Pancake House building is proposing to demolish the building given its poor condition. The owner indicated that they believe a removal of the aging building increases the opportunity for redevelopment, according to staff notes.

The Planning Commission meets Tuesday evening to consider these plans.
