GREENFIELD, WI — Police on Wednesday released new details showing how an argument outside the Greenfield Meijer store in September ended in a shooting.

Although the encounter ended with an arrest at the time, the Milwaukee District Attorney's office found the shooter acted within the law in defense and nobody involved is facing charges, police reports showed.

It happened on the morning of Sept. 28. A 54-year-old Milwaukee man told police he was running errands with his wife, according to a police report. As the two were leaving the store's parking lot in their SUV, a man confronted them at the window, according to the report.

The husband told police he was driving very slowly when the man crossed in front, sparking an apparent argument over the crosswalk, according to police reports. But then it turned violent, the husband told police.

The exchange broke out onto the parking lot, the husband told police, and as exited his vehicle facing punches and kicks he fell to the ground. But eventually, he heard a shot from somewhere and saw the other man fall, he said according to the police report.

The man's 43-year-old wife told officers she shot the other man as she pleaded with him to stop hitting her husband, according to the report.

The 35-year-old Milwaukee man was left paraplegic from injuries caused by the shooting, according to police reports, and the district attorney's office determined criminal charges are not appropriate for him.
