No Major Incidents Reported from House of Harley

Despite thousands of people descending on Greenfield last week and over the weekend for the House of Harley-Davidson’s 110th anniversary celebration, the six-day event was free of any major incidents requiring police intervention.

Greenfield police did respond to dozens of calls, but most of them were minor in nature.

Among the more severe was an incident involving a motorcycle rider who was arrested for drunken driving after he parked his motorcycle near the off-ramp at 84th Street at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 29.

There was also an intoxicated man who displayed a knife and was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon near the Layton/60th Street intersection Aug. 31.

In addition, the license for Lumpylicious BBQ to sell food on the House of Harley grounds was denied Aug. 29, per the Health Department’s request because the business is closed, according to police.

Three days later, the same vendor was advised he had to shut down after police say he threatened an on-site food service manager. Officers stood by while he removed his business from the grounds.

Other incidents included:

• Police assisted Greenfield paramedics with a person who possibly suffered from heat exhaustion Aug. 27. Another possible heat-related incident happened three days later.
• A man believed to be in his 50s was seen going through motorcycle saddlebags in the 5900 block of West Layton Ave. at 3:45 p.m. Aug. 29 and told by police to leave the area.
• An iPad was reported stolen from the House of Harley on Aug. 29, but later discovered at a home in New Berlin and returned. A cell phone was reported stolen Aug. 31, and a purse was stolen or lost Aug. 30.
• A motorcycle versus car accident occurred just before midnight Aug. 29, but did not result in any injuries. There were also a few car accidents in the 4800 block of West Layton Avenue, east of the House of Harley grounds.
• Fireman's Catering, a food vendor that sells food out of an old fire truck, had a defective horn that was sounding at 4:30 am. Aug. 29. Police were able to disconnect the battery.
• At least one person complained that motorcycles were traveling too quickly on Layton Avenue west of the House of Harley.
