Mitchell Interchange Crash Causing 3-4 Hour Delays: Sheriff

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — As drivers navigate wet and slippery conditions Monday, a traffic accident has shut down a key stretch of interstate traffic in Milwaukee County.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, a semi-trailer overturned on a curve at the Mitchell Interchange, which is where I-43/I-894 tie together.

"The Milwaukee County Sheriff's office is responding to a semi and a tow truck rollover crash at southbound I-94 and Layton Avenue, through the Mitchell Interchange," Sheriff's officials said in a statement Monday afternoon. "The driver of the tow truck has been transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. All lanes are shut down and traffic is being diverted westbound on I-43. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is advising the motoring public to expect heavy traffic delays for at least 3 to 4 hours."
Backups stretch at least three miles, according to the DOT.

Southbound traffic is being re-routed west onto I-43/I-894, and the closure is expected to last several hours, according to the DOT.
