Packers Vs. Redskins: 2018 NFL Week 3 Preview

The Green Bay Packers play their first road game of the 2018 NFL season in Week 3, traveling to Washington to play the Redskins.

WASHINGTON D.C. -- The Green Bay Packers travel to Washington D.C. in week three for their first road game of the season - playing a Washington Redskins team with a new quarterback, new running back and a 1-1 record.

Washington features quarterback Alex Smith, a three-time Pro Bowl player who was traded to the team from Kansas City in the off-season. 33-year-old Adrian Peterson will start at running back.

For the Packers, Aaron Rodgers is dealing with a sprained MCL that will about a month to heal. Rodgers will start at quarterback this week, yet is expected to be limited in his ability to run side-to-side.

Washington started the season by defeating the hapless Arizona Cardinals 24-6. A week later, Washington fell 21-9 to the Andrew Luck-led Indianapolis Colts.

In that game, Washington held Luck to 179 yards passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions, however despite 292 yards passing from new quarterback Alex Smith, the team from Washington couldn't get the offense going.

The Packers have started the season with an atypical 1-0-1 record. It took one of the most momentous comebacks in Green Bay history to overcome a revamped Chicago Bears team that - when figuring in the addition of linebacker Khalil Mack - staked the team to a 20-0 lead. In that game, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a knee injury that left his playing status in doubt for week two until the last minute.

In their second game of the season, the Packers ran out to a 17-7 lead over the Minnesota Vikings. A comedy of errors for both team's kicking games, an apparent blown call on Clay Matthews on a late roughing the passer penalty and a fourth-quarter charge by the Vikings led the two NFC North combatants to play to a 29-29 tie.
