GREENFIELD, WI — A Greenfield mother and her friend got a surprise visit from a Greenfield police officer this week. The officer took on two opponents, was supposedly defeated, though there may be a re-match.

Jessica Lorum said her friend Stacey Huber Olsen was at home on Wednesday as her 10-year-old son was playing basketball in the front driveway with a classmate.

They were just shooting some hoops before going to basketball practice when a Greenfield Police cruiser pulled up.

Out stepped Sergeant Daniel Orlowski. Olsen watched from the front window of her house to see what was happening.

Lorum said Orlowski walked up to the boys, and asked if he could join in the fun to sharpen his skills.

The shoot-around transitioned into a game of two-versus-one. Orlowski had the distinct height advantage in the game, however had to contend with the fresh legs and adept ball handling skills of his two opponents.

In the end, the children bested Orlowski 10-9 on their home court. Lorum said there may be a re-match, though it'd have to come soon, as the cold weather is on its way.

"I thought it was neat. It made the boys days and gave them a sense of pride," Lorum told Greenfield Patch. "Kids don’t typically have encounters with officers sporadically, so it was nice to change that narrative."
