MILWAUKEE, WI -- Holiday travel is bound to be more hazardous as a winter storm moves into the area starting this evening.
The National Weather Service in Sullivan, Wis. is reporting that a strengthening storm system in the central Plains will bring a period of mixed rain and snow to parts of south central Wisconsin starting Wednesday night.

Slushy snowfall of up to an inch is possible north and northwest of Madison, possibly causing some slippery spots on untreated roads and walks.

Officials say the storm system will affect the region Thursday into Friday night. Mainly rain is expected Thursday into Thursday evening for southern Wisconsin.
The rain may be locally heavy at times, which will result in rises of areas rivers and streams. A period of mixed rain and snow is possible Friday afternoon and evening with light accumulations.

Weather officials say that Wisconsin won't bear the brunt of this storm, as Minnesota is about to be walloped with up to a foot of snow.
