MADISON, WI — Gov. Tony Evers last week granted another 82 pardons, bringing his total number of pardons granted during his time as governor to 1,111.
"It continues to be a privilege to hear about individuals’ lives, work, and what they have done to overcome their past mistakes and build positive, rewarding lives for themselves and their families," Evers said in a statement.
Among the people pardoned is Amanda Conners, who was in her late teens and a mother of two trying to support her children when she sold a controlled substance to a confidential informant.

Two decades later, Conners pursued further education and volunteered in her community, where she lives with her family, according to Evers' office.
Under Wisconsin's state Constitution, the governor has the power to pardon people convicted of a crime. A pardon is considered an official act of forgiveness that restores rights lost when someone is convicted of a felony, but it does not expunge court records.

In 2019, Evers signed Executive Order No. 30, which allows people convicted of a Wisconsin felony may apply for a pardon if they completed their sentence at least five years ago and have no pending criminal charges.
People currently required to register on the sex offender registry are ineligible for a pardon.
Evers also signed Executive Order No. 130 in 2021, which established an expedited review process for applications that meet stricter criteria, including a greater length of time elapsed since sentence completion and the nonviolent nature of the offenses.
