MADISON, WI — Republicans have no basis to impeach newly elected liberal Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Janet Protasiewicz, according to a former justice consulting Assembly Speaker Robin Vos.

Some state Republicans have discussed pursuing impeachment if Protasiewicz did not recuse herself from a redistricting lawsuit challenging GOP-drawn legislative district boundary maps.

However, on Friday, she declined to recuse herself when she and three other liberal-leaning justices agreed to hear the case.

Vos — a Republican — had asked three former justices to review the possibility of impeachment. On Friday, David Prosser advised him against moving forward with impeachment, the Associated Press reported.

The email was then made public by liberal watchdog group American Oversight through an open records request.
