Imagine completing a tiring migration, and upon arrival, not recognizing your winter spot. Young writers from around the world participating in Guardian Whiskers’ recent Taradiddle Youth Writing Contest gave careful consideration to the dilemma of a red-throated hummingbird and submitted thought-provoking stories. Please join us in congratulating the finalists as determined by a panel of three judges.

In the High School age category, Allison Xu from Rockville, MD placed first; Emily placed second; Izzy Caldwell placed third; and Sandana received Honorable Mention. In the Elementary age category, Isa Hasan placed first; Shawn Hsieh from San Jose, CA placed second; May Torii from Bethesda, MD placed third; and Yunzhe Hong from Fontana, CA received Honorable Mention. Their stories can be read at www.taradiddle.org. Finalists received cash prizes and become published authors on Guardian Whiskers’ website.

“We are pleased to offer opportunities for young people to develop their voices and use their imagination in storytelling,” says Executive Director Michelle Livanos. “We are so impressed by the stories that are submitted. While the stories are fun to read, determining the finalists is certainly not an easy task!”
