5-Year-Old Killed Crossing Street In Racine: Police
A 5-year-old died after he was hit by a vehicle in Racine Tuesday evening when he tried to cross the street, according to police.

RACINE, WI — A child was fatally struck by a vehicle in Racine Tuesday evening when he tried to cross the street, according to police.
When officers arrived at the scene in the 1000 block of North Memorial Drive they found civilians giving aid to the 5-year-old boy, according to a news release from the Racine Police Department. He was hit around 8 p.m., according to the news release.
Just before the boy was hit, a girl had run into the street from the other side, police said. Traffic from both directions stopped for the girl as she crossed, and then the boy ran into the street from the opposite direction.

Traffic from the north saw the boy and stayed still, police said, but traffic from the south did not see the boy and a vehicle hit him. The boy was brought to Ascension Medical Center where he died, police said.
Racine police traffic investigators asked anyone with information on the fatal crash to call them at 262-635-7816 or to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 262-636-9330.
