County Marks Juror Appreciation Month by Making Service Easier

The process of jury duty is catching up to the digital age with new online tools for prospective jurors.

September is Juror Appreciation Month, so Clerk of Circuit Court Roseanne Lee this would be the best time to announce a streamlined check-in process for prospective jurors.

"Juror Appreciation Month is in recognition of the citizens who answered the call and completed their jury duty, and to highlight the honor and importance of serving on a jury," she said in a written statement. "In conjunction with Jury Appreciation Month, Racine County Circuit Court is announcing a recent upgrade to their jury system."

When prospective jurors receive their summons in the mail, they will now be able to check the status of their scheduled service through the Wisconsin Court System website.

There are a total of 20 counties across the state - including Racine, now - participating in the online juror status system. Not only can citizens complete their juror questionnaires on line, they can also choose to receive status updates via email or by text message.

“The courts have an obligation to keep up with the times," Lee said. "There is a whole generation out there that has never experienced a time without emails or text messages. We need to meet everyone where they are comfortable."
