Drug Take Back: Mt. Pleasant Police Plan Event For Saturday At Station

The Mount Pleasant Police Department is holding a drug take-back event on Saturday for people to safely dispose of medications.

MOUNT PLEASANT, WI — The Village of Mount Pleasant Police Department is holding a drug take-back event on Saturday for people to safely dispose of unwanted or expired medications, according to a news release from the agency.

The event will take place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the department's station, which is located at 8811 Campus Drive. Participants are asked to use the main driveway entrance near the northwest corner of the Mount Pleasant Village Hall, which is located near 90th Street and Campus Drive, the news release said.

"Help us keep our Village safe from the misuse of unused/used prescription medication," reads the police news release. The goal is to remove the medications from our bathroom cabinets and to keep them out of our water supply.

You can bring prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, including ointments, inhalers, patches, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials and medications for pets.

For pills, you should remove them from their container and put them directly into the disposal box or into a plastic bag. If you're bringing liquids, police ask that you bring them in their original container — liquids not in their original container will not be accepted. Blister packages can be brought in as-is as well.

Police say you shouldn't bring any illegal drugs, needles or sharps, mercury, aerosol cans, personal care products like soap or shampoo, bio-hazardous waste, and household waste.

This won't be the last time you'll be able to dispose of your unused medications. In the future, dropoffs that come to the station during business hours will be directed to a receptacle that the department has in their lobby, the news release says.
