Drunk Driver Ran Into Parked Construction Equipment: Report

RACINE COUNTY, WI — Police in Mount Pleasant say a Kenosha man was seriously injured after he drove drunk, ignored road closed signs and crashed head-on into a piece of construction equipment over the weekend.

According to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, officers were called to Braun Road near the East Frontage Road of I-94 for an accident. Officials said the driver of a 2005 Dodge Caravan, later identified as 45-year-old Maurice Henry of Kenosha, was driving east on Braun Road from the East Frontage Road when the accident happened.

Police said the area was closed for construction. At about 11:40 p.m. Henry ignored road closed signs, and hit a piece of road construction equipment that had been parked along the side of the road, police said. As Henry drove, police said he collided head-on with the equipment, which was not in-use at the time of the crash.

Officials from Mount Pleasant office say Henry was partially ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Henry was transported to Froedtert Hospital via flight for life. According police, officers at the scene of the crash learned that Henry was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Authorities say the Wisconsin State Patrol and South Shore Fire Department helped to clear the accident scene which was completed at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. This accident is still being investigated by members of the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
