Fire in Marriott Laundry Bin Causes Evacuation

Guests were evacuated Monday morning after a fire was discovered in the basement laundry room.

Guests at the Racine Marriott got a rude Monday morning wake-up call when they were evacuated because of a fire in the laundry room.

South Shore Fire responded at 5:53 a.m. to the hotel, 7111 Washington Avenue, and discovered a fire in one of the laundry bins in the basement, SSFD Battalion Chief Dale Izydorek confirmed.

"The cause of the fire is undetermined but is not suspicious," he said.

Firefighters had the fire completely extinguished by 6:19 a.m., and there were no injuries.

Hotel guests were allowed back in their rooms by 7 a.m. Izydorek said damages only come to about $1,000.
