Fisticuffs vs. Beer Bottle: Dance With Woman Ignites Brawl at Local Tavern

Two Racine men were arrested early Sunday after a squabble at a nearby bar that resulted in one of the two bleeding profusely.

Mount Pleasant police charged two Racine men with battery early Sunday after responding to a call at a local bar where one of them was bleeding profusely from his head.

Officers arrived at Los Cantaritos Tavern, 2405 Racine St., around 1:40 a.m., according to a department news release. They had been patrolling the area, "due to the closing of several area taverns where there has been a high concentration of calls for service."

There, they found 23-year-old Sabino Garcia and 26-year-old Xavier Hernandez. Garcia was bleeding from a laceration on his head.

"A witness said Garcia did not like Hernandez dancing with a particular female patron," the police report said. "Garcia then punched Hernandez in the head. Hernandez retaliated by breaking a beer bottle over Garcia’s head causing a laceration and profuse bleeding and swelling. Hernandez was not injured."

Garcia was taken to All Saints Hospital for wound treatment and Hernandez was taken into custody. Each man was charged with one count of substantial battery, police said.
