Foxconn Facility Will Begin Production In 2020: Company
The Taiwanese screen-making giant is continuing with the $10 billion project, $4 billion of which will be repaid in the form of tax credits.

MOUNT PLEASANT, WI — Foxconn said they will have a functioning flat-screen panel manufacturing facility in Wisconsin by the end of 2020, according to a release from the company. The message comes in the wake of mixed signals over whether the Taiwan-based company would suspend work on the deal, which is expected to bring $10 billion and 13,000 jobs to the state.
Construction is set to begin later this year on a smaller manufacturing facility than was originally planned. Last year, the company said they were scaling back their Wisconsin factory from what's known as a Gen 10 down to a Gen 6.
A Gen 6 facility just receives smaller-sized pieces of LCD glass than a Gen 10 does to create screens ranging in size from cellphones to 75-inch TVs, the AP reports.

Regardless of the change in facility, the company says they're still bringing $10 billion and 13,000 jobs to Wisconsin. The AP reports they'll be getting $4 billion back in local and state tax credits.
After then considering in early 2019 suspending work, Foxconn founder and chairman Terry Gou had discussions with the White House and President Donald Trump and recommitted to the Gen 6 facility.

"We’re investing in Wisconsin because we know manufacturing here is going to drive even greater success and growth for Foxconn and for the community," said Louis Woo, Gou's special assistant, in a Foxconn release.

“There’s no limit, frankly, to skepticism if the messaging isn’t coherent," Gov. Tony Evers said, according to the AP, though he continues to work with the company.
"I’m comfortable that they’re still committed to the state," he said. "They’re committed to this Generation 6 technology, but that doesn’t mean that we (won’t) encourage them to be more transparent and consistent in their messaging.”
Foxconn plans to choose contractors for infrastructure work for the Mount Pleasant site by April 1 and will issue contracts for facility construction in May.
