How Safe Do You Feel? FBI Crime Report Gives Glimpse Into Police Activity
Information from Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant police is included in the annual FBI Crime in the United States report. Mount Pleasant saw decreases from 2009 to 2010 in violent and property crimes; Sturtevant crime remained relatively unchanged.
Crime levels in Mount Pleasant went down from 2009 to 2010, according to the FBI's annual report Crime in the United States, while Sturtevant saw relative stability in its reported crimes.
The reports, compiled from data submitted to the FBI by individual law enforcement agencies, show a snapshot of the activity a police agency responds to in a particular year.

Mount Pleasant
Violent crime went down significantly from 2009 to 2010, dropping from 68 incidents in 2009 to 27 in 2010. Included in that drop were decreases in the number of murders and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robberies and aggravated assaults.

Property crime in Mount Pleasant went down slightly from 2009 to 2010, decreasing from 695 incidents in 2009 to 658 in 2010. There were drops in the categories for burglary, theft and arson. Motor vehicle thefts in that period, however, went up slightly, from 17 in 2009 to 21 in 2010.

Sturtevant
Violent crime in Sturtevant went up from 2009 to 2010, going from six incidents in 2009 to nine in 2010. In 2009, that number was made up of one murder and five aggravated assaults. In 2010, nine aggravated assaults were included in the reports to the FBI.

Property crime levels in Sturtevant went basically unchanged from 2009 to 2010, going from 78 to 73. However, some categories saw significant changes. There were 62 thefts included in the report for 2009; that number dropped to 48 in 2010. Motor vehicle thefts increased significantly, going from two in 2009 to 11 in 2010. There were 14 burglaries reported in each of the two years.
