I-94 Driver Ignores Construction, Wrecks Car: Report

Authorities say the driver drove through a construction area where workers were on the job.

RACINE COUNTY, WI β€” Authorities in Racine County say an Oak Creek man has been arrested and faces charges after he drove through a construction area on I-94 Tuesday where workers were working, before ending in a crumpled wreck on a part of the freeway that hadn't been built yet.

According to the Racine County Sheriff's office, an Oak Creek man was driving his Chevrolet Malibu south on I-94 near Highway 20 at just after 9 p.m. Tuesday when he drove around several orange barrels, a road closed sign barrier and a cement barrier.

Authorities say the driver then drove through a construction area where workers were on the job. The driver continued south on I-94 until the paved freeway ended. Authorities say he drove off the freeway and into a gravel area that was about a foot lower than the concrete.
