'Mass Chaos' Emerges After 2 People Shot At Racine Funeral: Police

Racine police said multiple guns were used in a shooting at Graceland Cemetery on Thursday that left two hurt, and nobody has been arrested.

RACINE, WI — Two women were shot and injured on Thursday during a funeral at Graceland Cemetery in Racine as a scene of "mass chaos" emerged, according to a news release from the Racine Police Department.

Multiple firearms were used in the shooting, police said. Shots rang out and police were called around 2:30 p.m. as funeral services were going on for Da'Shontay King, the man who a Racine officer fatally shot in May.

Racine police said nobody is in custody after the cemetery shooting.

A 19-year-old woman was shot, treated and released from a hospital, police said. A 35-year-old woman was also shot, airlifted to Milwaukee for surgery, and as of Friday around noon, was awake and alert, according to police. Initial reports said multiple people were shot, but police said no other gunshot injuries were reported.

Police said they were faced with "mass chaos" when they arrived at the scene Thursday afternoon.

Racine Mayor Cory Mason called Thursday's shooting "a new low for these perpetrators of violence in our community."

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers also reacted to the shooting in a post on Twitter Thursday afternoon.

"Gun violence has to stop," Evers said in part.
