Morning Fire Sends One to Hospital
South Shore Fire responded to calls of a fire in the 1100 block of Oakes Road Friday morning.

One woman went to the hospital Friday morning for smoke inhalation after food she was cooking on her stove caught fire.
South Shore Fire responded shortly before 7 a.m. Friday to calls of a fire in the 1100 block of Oakes Road. When they arrived, they found a first-floor unit filled with smoke.
"There was heavy smoke condition caused by food cooking on the stove," confirmed SSFD Battalion Chief Jon Kaiser.

He thought the resident might have tried to use her own fire extinguisher to put out the flames.
All 16 units were evacuated as a precaution, but residents were returning by 7:30 a.m. after SSFD determined there wasn't an active fire and damages were contained to the one unit.

"It's not extensive damage because the small fire was contained to the kitchen," Kaiser added.Â
The resident, a single female, was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Kaiser said her condition was not life-threatening.
