Veterans at the Wisconsin Veterans Home are working with members of the Hoy Audubon Society and members of Mount Pleasant Village Hall staff to increase the bluebird population in our area.
Veterans made nesting boxes that are installed at 21 points along the Pike River and will be monitored to see if bluebirds are using the boxes for their homes.
United Mechanical donated lengths of pipe to hold the boxes, and village staff installed the stands while Rick Fare from Hoy and Tom Burczyk, a volunteer in the VA woodworking shop, installed the boxes.
"Hoy will monitor the boxes to see how many new boxes are being used and how many new bluebirds are produced as part of the Bluebird Restoration Association of Wisconsin," a press release from the village reads.
