Police Investigator Caught In Crossfire Monday
Authorizes say a Racine police investigator managed to escape after being struck by gunfire when two people started shooting at each other.

RACINE, WI — A Racine police investigator says he escaped being struck by any bullets after he was caught in the crossfire between two people who opened fire on one another in Racine Monday afternoon.
According to Racine police, an investigator with the Racine Police Special Investigations Unit was on assignment around noon on the 1400 block of S. 11th Street when an argument broke out between two men. Police said the argument was unrelated to why the officer was in the neighborhood.
Police said both men pulled out handguns and began firing at each other with the investigator between the two. Police said the investigator was sitting in his squad car when it was struck several times by gunfire.

According to police, the investigator quickly got out of his squad car, and identified himself as a police officer. Authorities said one man ran away, and the other dropped his handgun and was arrested.
Police said several shots were fired in total between the two men, and the investigator received several scratches from the glass that was struck by gunfire.

No shots were fired by Racine police, according to a news release issued Monday afternoon.
Racine police investigators are asking for the public's help to track down the other person who opened fire Monday afternoon in Racine. Any witnesses, or people who may have known who was involved, are urged to call the Racine Police Department Investigations Unit at (262) 635-7756.
