WAUKESHA, WI — Demonstrators continued marches and demonstrations in the metro Milwaukee area Monday after a weekend that saw multiple peaceful protests across Wisconsin and a number of violent protests that damaged businesses, vehicles and private property.

Carrying signs that read "white silence equals violence," "I can't breathe" and "black lives matter," demonstrators marched through the streets of Waukesha Monday to protest the death of George Floyd, an African-American man who died after an arrest by Minneapolis police on Memorial Day.

By Monday afternoon, the protesters were seen kneeling with uniformed police officers. In one video captured by a participant, Waukesha police were seen elbow bumping and giving protesters hugs as they walked across a controlled intersection.

Racine Marches

In Racine, a group of nearly 200 demonstrators gathered outside the police station just west of Downtown Monday afternoon. Demonstrators kneeled in front of the police department as they chanted "black lives matter" among several other phrases.

Outside, Racine Police stood watch on area side streets and blocked off traffic at several intersections as the group headed south from the department. The group marched south on Center Street before doubling back and heading downtown.
