Police: Man Says Skydiving Guest Overstayed Her Welcome
Police say a woman in town to work at a local business didn't take too kindly to being asked to leave the property of a man who lets visiting skydivers crash at his place.
Mount Pleasant police say they arrested a woman Monday for disorderly conduct after she didn't take too kindly to being asked to leave a village resident's property.
Amy Brooks, 38, was charged Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court with a single misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. If convicted, she faces up to 90 days in jail and/or up to $10,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, Brooks was staying with a Mount Pleasant man who allows skydivers to crash in a camper at his place when they're in town. Brooks was employed at a local business, but after a few weeks, the man wasn't happy with the way Brooks was behaving so he asked her to leave.
Because Brooks became verbally abusive and threatened to punch the man in the face, the man told officers he feared for his safety, police reports indicate.
Police say the man said Brooks was recently fired from her job for showing up to work drunk and drinking while on the clock. The man also told officers that he feared for his safety and that of his property because Brooks was hanging out with some unsavory characters in Illinois.
During one of Brooks' trips to Illinois, the man went into the camper and removed some of the items he'd given her to make her more comfortable. When Brooks returned, she told the man he was "mean" for taking those items. He asked her to gather her things and leave in the next day or two, which started the altercation, the complaint reads.
When officers questioned Brooks, she was at first cooperative and gave them her real name and age but couldn't tell them where she lived because she said she's "lived in various states." Police say they were outside the camper talking with Brooks, but when she said she was going to open the camper door to turn off the music on her cell phone, officers asked her to remain seated. When she repeatedly tried to get up - coupled with the fact that dispatch couldn't return a hit on the name she provided - they became suspicious and told her they were taking her into custody on suspicion of disorderly conduct for the incident with the property owner.
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Brooks was still incarcerated at the Racine County Jail despite being assigned a $150 signature bond during her initial appearance. A condition of her bond is that Brooks have a third party collect her belongings from the man's house. She is next due in court on Aug. 8.Â
