Police: Mount Pleasant Couple Victims of Elder Abuse

A 36-year-old Racine man is facing elder abuse and battery charges after Mount Pleasant police say he attacked his parents at their home.

Matthew Kaydo was charged Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court with one felony count of substantial battery/domestic abuse; one felony count of aggravated battery/elderly abuse; and one misdemeanor count of battery/domestic abuse. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years, three months in jail and/or up to $30,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were called to a residence on Stuart Road Friday to take a report from a couple who said their son beat them up on at least three different occasions over the past few months.

The man said Kaydo first attacked him in February because Kaydo said he knew there was a conspiracy against him. When then the man tried to leave, Kaydo got violent, punching the man so hard he needed stitches over his left eye. At the time of the incident, the man admitted that he lied to hospital personnel about how he got hurt, the complaint reads.

On June 12, police say Kaydo again got violent with the man after they'd "been drinking some," hitting him over the head. Then, on Friday, the man reported that Kaydo attacked his wife while she sat in the living room watching television. Kaydo yelled at her for taking all his father's money and putting the family in debt while hitting her repeatedly in the face and body.

Kaydo remains in the Racine County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond with conditions that he not contact the man and woman and he not consume or possess any alcohol. His preliminary hearing is June 26.
