Star Student: Determination And A Sense Of Humor, Even When It's Tough
We all know students who excel in academics, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in Wisconsin.

WISCONSIN — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Shelly Janke who nominated her son Brandon of Mount Pleasant-Sturtevant.

How do you know the star local student?
Brandon is my son.
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Brandon Schmidt is an A student, on the principal's list at Concordia Lutheran school. He also excels and goes to high school algebra at Lutheran high school. He works very hard to keep good grades, he is now a second-degree brown belt in karate, he also takes bass lessons. I feel that Brandon excels, because he is the only son of a single mother who has stepped up to help the family. Covid was devastating financially, and we’ve had to sacrifice as a family to survive. He would work if he was old enough to help support the family. He has volunteered at church festivals, is great with younger kids. He brings so much joy and laughter to this family with his great sense of humor in good times and in bad. He has been a rock and is so loving and compassionate. He has determination, relentlessness and commitment to excel and be there when he is needed. Individual just a really great kid who I believe will do his best to excel and Contribute to society.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Brandon always has a sense of humor in good times, and when things get tough. He is very supportive of his family and his drive to succeed is inspirational.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Brandon!
