Teenagers' Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges for One

Police say Traenovian McGee had a plastic bag of pills when officers initiated a traffic stop over the weekend.

A Racine teen is in custody after police say they found a baggie of prescription medication on him during a traffic stop.

Traenovian McGee, 19, was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with one misdemeanor count of possession of illegally obtained prescription and two felony counts of bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to 12-1/2 years in jail and/or up to $20,500 in fines.

The bail jumping charges stem from another drug charge in February. As a condition of that $500 cash bond, McGee agreed to not consume or possess any alcohol or illegal substances while also living at home and attending school.

According to the criminal complaint, Mount Pleasant police at 12:49 a.m. Saturday initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Racine Marriott, 7111 Washington Avenue. Officers were questioning the six occupants of the vehicle when police noticed a cell phone in the pocket of the passenger door.

When they asked one of the teens about the phone, according to the complaint, he admitted it was his. The marijuana cigarette that was also in the pocket, however, he said wasn't his. At this point, police asked all parties to exit the car, the complaint reads.

When McGee got out of the car, officers say a small plastic bag fell from his lap. When police examined the contents of the baggie, they discovered six Xanax pills and subsequently took the defendant into custody.

At the Mount Pleasant Police Department, McGee admitted he was out on bond for another drug offense but did not admit the pills were his, the complaint reads.

McGee remains in the Racine County Jail on a $2,000 cash bond. His next court appearance for these most recent charges is scheduled for April 10. He was due in court Monday for a status conference on the previous drug charge.
