Traditional Bell Ringing Closes Sturtevant Polls
Ringing a bell to signal the polls closing in Sturtevant is a time-honored tradition.
It might not be necessary to signal village residents that the polls have closed, but ringing a bell outside Sturtevant Village Hall at the end of election day is a tradition.
Before the advent of mass communication, village officials would ring a large bell at the beginning and at the end of each election day, according to state statute.Â
