United Way Of Racine County Calls For Donations Amid Coronavirus

Organizations across Racine County are need of donated funds, protective equipment, diapers, food and more.

RACINE COUNTY, WI — United Way of Racine County announced Wednesday it's starting a COVID-19 relief fund to support the community's nonprofit organizations negatively impacted by the new coronavirus.

United Way is currently accepting donations of money and specific items to bolster the community's most giving organizations. Text RCCOVID to 71777 or click here to make a financial donation.

United Way said on its website it will distribute funding in amounts between $1,000 and $5,000 to 501(c)(3) organizations that submit an application. Distributions will be determined by a committee and decided based on answers submitted in the application.

United Way is also getting the word out about other organizations in need of donated items including personal protective equipment, food, diapers, personal care items and more.


The Burlington Transitional Living Center is in need of gloves, masks, paper plates, napkins, plastic utensils, grocery store gift cards, gas cards and cleaning supplies like Clorox wipes, paper towels, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, garbage bags and bleach.

Catherine Marian Houseing, Inc., asks for donations of pantry supplies, canned goods, size four diapers and bus passes. To donate, contact executive director Pamela Handrow at 262-633-9446.


HALO, Inc. — the Homeless Assistance Leadership Organization — needs donations of the following items: toothpaste, disposable razors, deodorant, masks, disposable goves, sanitizer wipes, bleach, grape jelly, snack bars, fitted and flat twin sheets, pantry supplies, canned goods and alcohol wipes.

Donations can be made at 2000 DeKoven Avenue, Unit 1, in Racine or by calling 262-633-3235.


The Racine County Food Bank is asking for donations of N95 or surgical masks for pantry volunteers, hand sanitizer and sandwich bags. Donations of items can be made at any Piggly Wiggly or Pick n' Save store east of I-95.

Before making donations directly to the food bank, residents are asked to call executive director Dan Taivalkoski at 262-632-2307. The food bank is located at 2000 DeKoven Avenue, Unit 2, in Racine.


Racine Friendship Clubhouse is asking for donations of gloves, face masks, plastic grocery bags, postage stamps, word-search books, art/activity kits and travel-size games in sets of two.

Safe Haven of Racine, Inc., is asking for donations of masks, disinfectant spray, hand sanitizer, grocery store gift cards and agency-level laptops. Donors can contact executive director Jeanette Brown at jbrown@safehavenofracine.org or 262-637-9559. Safe Haven is located at 1030 Washington Avenue in Racine.


The Salvation Army — Racine Corps is in need of shampoo, body wash, bar soap, hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper, deodorant, size 4-6 diapers and baby wipes. The Salvation Army is located at 1901 Washington Avenue. Donors can contact social services manager Jamie Read at 262-632-3147.


The Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin asks for donations of fresh/frozen meat (preferably five-pound portions), fresh and canned fruits and vegetables, canned soups and stews (preferably with meat), pasta noodles and jars of meat sauce, bags of rice and cereal.

An all-day dropbox is available for non-perishable donations on the west side of the 1624 Yout Street building in Racine. Fresh and frozen food items can be donated curbside on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m.


The Women's Resource Center of Racine asks for donations of hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, bleach, disinfectant spray, size five and six diapers, baby wipes and agency-level laptops. To donate, contact Jori Chambers at jchambers@racinewrc.org.
