Work Begins On New $6 Million Sports Complex

RACINE, WI — Racine County officials joined Green Bay Packers President Mark Murphy in putting the first shovel in the dirt in the $6 million S.C. Johnson Community Sports Complex at Pritchard Park Wednesday. In partnership with the Racine Unified School District, Racine County

Murphy joined Racine County Executive Jonathan Delagrave and Racine Unified Superintendent Eric Gallien for a ceremony at the SC Johnson Community Sports Complex.

The state-of-the-art, synthetic turf stadium will be used for football, soccer, lacrosse and a variety of community events. The project includes an innovative 2,000-person capacity top-loading bleacher system, raised plaza, ticket stands, concessions, press box, scoreboard and lighting.

It is made possible through an unprecedented $6 million partnership between Racine County and the Racine Unified School District, as well as a $250,000 grant from the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program.

The stadium, which is expected to open in Fall 2020, will be open to all area schools
and sports teams, youth teams, community organizations and residents.

“This facility will truly be a game-changer for our children, families and visitors. For too long, our youth have needed to travel outside Eastern Racine County to play on quality athletic fields. I am beyond excited to officially break ground on a first-class stadium that will serve Racine County for generations to come,” Delagrave said in a statement.

Racine Unified School District's contribution to this project comes from the Community Service Fund. State law requires the district to use these funds for the community – beyond their own schools – and the district is excited to partner with the county on this project.
