Aldermanic Elections May Go Uncontested

It's possibly not a surprise that after last year's controversy over the lake park purchase, it's tough to find candidates to run for Muskego's Common Council.

As the Jan. 2 deadline looms to have papers filed by hopeful candidates to make it on the ballot, District 4, 6 and 7 have one candidate listed; District 2 remains unclaimed by anyone.

Rob Glazier will run for his first full term in the 4th District, as will Eileen Madden in the 7th District. Both had come onto the council as a result of the resignations of Keith Werner and Noah Fiedler, respectively.

Jill Blensky, deputy clerk with the City of Muskego, said they believed a candidate had pulled papers for the 2nd District, which will be open after Kert Harenda's term expires in April. Harenda cannot run for re-election in that district as new lines drawn last year under redistricting put him in the 3rd District.

However the unconfirmed candidate still needs to file nomination papers by the end of business hours on Wednesday, Jan. 2 to make it onto the ballot.

Should no candidate step forward, Blenski said the city would undergo the same process when aldermen resign or retire before their term is up. In those cases, candidates are asked to submit their interest similar to a resume, are 'interviewed' by the Common Council, and appointed by a two-round paper ballot process.
