Are We Obscure? Apparently Not.
April 28 is Obscura Day, a day in which all things unusual, eccentric and perhaps unknown to all but a few people in your hometown are celebrated. Muskego didn't make the list, but we're sure there are a few details residents might find head-scratching.
Obscura Day bills itself as an “international day of expeditions, back-room tours and hidden treasures in your hometown.” Unfortunately, when we checked out the website to see what came up for Muskego, the biggest mystery was that we came up empty. In fact, the closest locations on the Atlas Obscura website are the Mt. Horeb Mustard Museum and the Yerkes Observatory in Lake Geneva.
However, we know better. There aren't too many small cities that can claim a defunct Nike missle site, however still off limits, for example. Or claim a legend that a nearby marsh swallowed a train. (Known as the Devil's Teapot for those of you who would like to scramble to the library for more information on that.)
And of course, the infamous Haunchyville, which I admit I thought was called Munchyville when I was younger. Even though it has garnered press over the years and was featured in "Weird Wisconsin," the bizarre stories that were born on Mystic Drive (and why is it Mystic?) didn't make it on the Obscura site. What do mythical dwarves have to do to get a little recognition, anyway?

I put it to you, dear readers, what are some of Muskego's home-grown baffling and bewildering places, or legends you've heard over the years? What other bizarre and peculiar attractions or events would you recommend here in our fair city?
List your ideas here in the comment section. Then go to the website, click on "Suggest an Event," (of course using good judgment and not sending someone to private property) and let the world know that we have more to offer than just road projects.
