Art Show Will Highlight Young Talent

The Muskego Public Library will again become an art gallery, decked out with paintings, sculptures and other "objets d'art" through the end of March.

Youth Art Month is an annual observation each March to emphasize the value of art education for all students and to encourage support for quality school art programs.

"It provides a forum for recognizing the skills that are fostered through experience in the visual arts that are not possible in other subjects offered in the curriculum," said Dennis Severin, art instructor at Lake Denoon Middle School. "While students in art classes learn a variety of techniques specifc to art, such as how to draw, how to mix paint, how to center a pot or explore art history, they’re also taught a remarkable array of mental habits not emphasized elsewhere in schools."

The display is titled “Art Education: So much MORE than what you see…” and will feature the work from students in Muskego elementary, middle and high schools.

In addition, the public is invited to a reception for student artists, families, and teachers celebrating Youth Art Month in the Muskego Public Library on Wednesday, March 20 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
