As School Year Winds Down, Achievements Build

Many Muskego High School students were recognized this past week for their academic and athletic achievements. The list is by no means exhaustive, so we welcome your additions!

The class of 2012 is gearing up for exams and final farewells, but not before they are recognized for their contributions in the classroom and on the field.  Here are a few of the news bites we've received on students who have been recognized:

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (WISCA) honored Sami Pochowski as its swimmer of the year (D1) for her student-athletes and coaches for her achievements during the 2011-12 school year. Pochowski owns state records in swim, and will be attending the University of Florida in fall.

In addition, the MHS Forensics team were named state champions; at the Muskego-Norway School Board Meeting on Monday, Andi Pileggi, Aly Robinson and Ben Hlavacek were honored for their performance at the state competition.

According to the district website, Rachel Mattson has accepted an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy and will begin her education and training in Colorado Springs, CO at the Air Force Academy upon graduation this June.

Rachel received a nomination from Congressman Paul Ryan's Office after a lengthy application process and interview.  Her nomination was sent to the Air Force Academy and the Academy offered her an Appointment.  "It is important to note that the application process for potential candidates this year was the most competitive in the Academy's history, with just over 1,000 Appointments being offered nationwide," the release stated.

Also from the website, Muskego High School's 2012 WIAA Scholar Athletes were named.  Emma Szczupakiewicz and Joe Blommel will receive medals from the WIAA recognizing their achievements.

Each year, member high schools of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association are invited to nominate one boy and one girl for Scholar Athlete honors. The program, which is underwritten by Marshfield Clinic, was launched in 1984 to demonstrate the positive impact of interscholastic athletic activities.

Earlier this week, we also featured the , class valedictorian and salutatorian respectively, for being named National Merit Scholar Finalists.
