Breast Cancer Event Sends Remembrance Up, Up and Away

Balloon launch is just part of first-ever event sponsored by local businesses, which aim to remember and honor victims and survivors no matter the color of the ribbon

While October has been declared Breast Cancer Awareness month, there's more to the "Think Pink" event scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 10 at Miche Bags in Muskego than the title would suggest.

Owner Shawna Jesse and Glo 10 Spa are cosponsoring the event to raise awareness, quite literaly, of all types of cancers through a balloon launch during the event.

Starting at 6 p.m. at Miche's location in the Muskego Business Park, the festivities will include a silent auction, raffles and the opportunity to purchase a balloon in pink - or your choice of color - to remember or honor someone who has battled cancer in any form.

"I think it's an opportunity during breast cancer awareness month to also recognize so many other cancer causes out there, and people can purchase a balloon for a dollar, write someone's name that they're honoring or remembering on the card, and we'll launch them all around 6:45 p.m." Jesse said.

Chair massages, nail art application and hair extensions will be offered by Glo 10 as well, and for the kids, cookie decorating will keep them busy and well fed.

Proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Recovery, which is based out of Madison and offers support and healing to women recovering from cancer through retreats throughout the state.

"It provides a healing of mind, soul and spirit, and we wanted to recognize their work through this event as well," Jesse said.

In addition, photos will be available for $5 from Carol Schlintz to capture your best side, and survivor gift bags will also be handed out.

Jesse said she hoped to also have a similar event in March of next year to continue to spotlight all cancers. Visit Jesse's Facebook page, Purse Fashionistas, for more information or to contact her.
