Concealed Carry Takes Effect on Tuesday: Any Questions?

Law enforcement awaits the effect of the statewide law allowing for permitted gun owners to carry a concealed weapon, and recommends a little reading along with training to keep up with what the law says.

Police officials are hoping to make sure the official enactment of Wisconsin’s Concealed Carry Law, which goes into effect on Tuesday, Nov. 1, is met by an informed public.

After that date it will be legal for citizens, with a permit, to carry a weapon concealed on their person.

"Since this law was passed, the state has continued to define and refine its requirements," explained Muskego Police Lt. Dave Constantineau in a release.  I would love to be able to explain the ins and outs of the law, so that you could easily understand it.  Unfortunately, I don’t have enough space here to do that."

It's understandable as the FAQs on the state's website take up more than 50 pages, which was updated on Oct. 20.  I have attached a link to it here, and would encourage you to read it if you have any questions.

If you'd prefer the 'nutshell' version: four hours of training will be required before a person will receive a concealed carry permit, and they must have that permit prior to carrying the weapon.  What exactly the training will consist of and who can provide it is listed in the FAQs.
