Drug Collection Returns to Muskego This Saturday

Muskego will again join other communities on Saturday, April 27 to help remove old and unused medications in order to help remove temptation from the family medicine cabinet.

Chances are, a brief survey of your medicine cabinet will reveal bottles of medications that you haven't used in years, or even those that aren't so old but you no longer need them.

Get rid of them, say police.Β

Often drug use by younger people begins at home, and family can be unwitting accomplices by leaving prescriptions and other medications available for experimenting by kids, or their friends. So, for the second year, Muskego Police are featuring a drug collection drop off site right at the department's garage.

Drive right in and hand over any unused and expired medications, lotions and liquids from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. Volunteers will be on hand to take them and properly dispose of them so they don't fall into the wrong hands.

Donations for Waukesha County Drug Free Communities will be gladly welcome as well. The organizationΒ works to foster collaboration among communities, nonprofit agencies and Federal, State andΒ local governments to reduce substance abuse. Through drug collection drives, they also address factors in a community that increase the risk of substance abuse.

Last year Waukesha County Drug Free Communities netted nearly three tons of pills Β and other medications for disposal across six drop off sites. Muskego itself took in more than 500 pounds in its inaugural year.

If you'd like to participate, but won't be in Muskego around that time, there are six other sites throughout Waukesha County that will feature drug collection drives as well.
