Girl Scout Troop Sprucing Up Muskego Settlement Centre

The troop is restoring the building's exterior, fixing the fence and landscaping the area.

A group of Muskego Girl Scouts are spending a big chunk of their summer knee-deep in elbow grease and community service.

About 10 members of Troop 4114 are refurbishing the church at the Muskego Settlement Centre. The work includes repainting the building, restoring the fence and landscaping the surrounding area.

The girls are going for their Silver Award—the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn—and are required to spend at least 50 hours on the project. That's meant several hours every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the church, and additional time to raise money.

The troop has held bake sales at Jammin 'on Janesville and has also asked area businesses for support.

"The girls are sacrificing a lot," troop leader Lee Perry said.

They hope to get the project done by the start of Muskego Fest Aug. 22.
