Got a Shanty on the Lakes? It's Now Gonna Cost You

After March 3 the Muskego lakes are no place to keep your ice fishing shelter overnight, no matter how cold it gets.

If the saga of the sunken pop-up camper on Little Muskego Lake wasn't warning enough, perhaps a fine will be.

As of March 3, the DNR will require all shanties to be removed daily and when not occupied. It's OK to use a shelter if you are out ice fishing, you just have to take it with you.

Failure to remove a shanty or ice fishing shelter could result in a fine of $263.10. Additional costs may be incurred if the DNR must arrange to have the shanty removed, or if the shanty or ice fishing shelter breaks through the ice and must be recovered and disposed of.
