Heads Up: Winter Storm Warning Now in Effect, Quick Burst of Snow Creating Lousy Conditions

Plain and simple, the wet heavy snowfall couldn't have come at a worse time. Here's a quick overview of what to expect if you have to head out

Just as you're about to head home, the snow's flying and with a vengence. Although it's not going to be a storm of long duration or depth, the afternoon drive home won't be much of a picnic.

The National Weather Service had initially issued a winter weather advisory for Ozaukee, Waukesha, Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha counties that was in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday. However, by 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, it was upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning in effect until noon on Wednesday.

Patch’s media partners at WISN 12 News are forecasting 3 to 5 inches of wet, heavy snow with the higher totals likely over southern Milwaukee County through Racine and Kenosha counties.

Muskego Police have reported no serious accidents, but did urge caution and stressed the need to keep a safe traveling distance from the car in front of you and making sure your headlights are on to keep it that way.

Department of Public Works plows are also out, but the initial heavy snow bands have made it tough to keep up. About 2 inches were on the ground by 4 p.m. Tuesday, meaning that the snow was falling at a good clip of one inch per hour. Roads as a result are snow covered, and blowing snow from winds in excess of 20 mph have been making visibility poor, especially in the more rural areas of Muskego.
