It Bears Repeating: No Burning, No Fireworks

As we head into the 4th of July holiday, you'll have to leave the personal fireworks, sparklers and the fire pit behind as Muskego remains under bans for all of it.

We noticed the library's marquis sign now indicates the, but with a Saturday meeting where the the message may not be received...yet.

Friday, Muskego Mayor issued a ban on all burning, with the exception of grills used for cooking. In other words, no firepit burning, campfires or small bonfires to get rid of any leaves that have dried and falling from stressed trees.

The council's decision on Saturday rescinds permits issued for personal fireworks, and for the rest of you folks who may not have gotten that permit but were thinking of blowing off a few firecrackers anyway, please don't.

It's likely that the ban on fireworks will extend past July 7, which is the last permitted date for using the 'class c' explosives and incindieries, so if you do hold a permit, you have the option of getting a refund, or using the permit for 2013. You will still need to resubmit proof of insurance when the time comes to ensure you have approval.

The July 3rd fireworks are still a GO. Officials say the permitting process is different, and because the fireworks are being set off from a floating barge on Little Muskego Lake, they are ok to go.

For smokers, please do exercise care in where the discarded cigarette goes, as the dead undergrowth of grass is indeed flammable.
