It's Time To Get Your Cookie Fix, Muskego

Girl Scout Cookies now on sale from a 4-foot-tall dealer near you.

Craving a Thin Mint? Can't get enough of the Peanut Butter Patties?

Perfect timing. Your prayers have been answered, as the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast (GSWISE) have begun to take orders for your favorite cookies through March 10. Considered the nation's premier financial literacy and entrepreneurship program (indeed - have you ever told a scout 'no'?), the cookie program is now in its 94th year.

Molly Fuler, CEO with the Girl Scouts, said, "With every season of Girl Scout Cookies, another generation of girls learns to set goals, make a plan and manage money. As women, they'll need those skills, whether their goal is to start a business, a family or run for political office."

Makes you feel quite noble digging into that box of shortbreads now, doesn't it?

If you don't have a girl scout in the neighborhood or in the family, and your workplace has banned sales of anything by anybody, the GSWISE suggests making a plan for March, as troops will be holding booth sales throughout the month at local grocery stores and other community locations. Visit www.GirlScoutCookies.org  during March, enter your zip code and see when and where booth sales will be held in your area.

In addition, the “Cookie Share” project allows customers to purchase Girl Scout cookies for the purpose of donation to local food banks in southeastern Wisconsin. More than 11,000 packages of cookies were donated in 2011, according to Sarah Laupan with GSWISE.

"Donors can stop in our resource centers, located in Milwaukee, New Berlin, Kenosha and Racine, to purchase cookies during the cookie booth period or to give a cash contribution to support the leadership development of girls in our area," she explained.

No newcomers this year, but the favorites are always OK. Varieties on sale include Thin Mints, Caramel DeLites, Peanut butter patties, Peanut butter sandwich, Shout-Outs, Thanks-a-lots, Shortbreads and Lemonades. Thin Mints are the top sellers, making up 25 percent of sales, followed by Caramel DeLites (19 percent), Peanut Butter Patties (13 percent), Peanut Butter Sandwich (11 percent) and Shortbreads (9 percent).
