Janesville, Pioneer Projects Prompt Closures

Signs posted mark progress, and a few detours in two major road projects in downtown Muskego.

Electronic signs have gone up indicating that Janesville Road will experience closures from 7 p.m. Friday, June 22 to 7 a.m. Monday, June 25. The sign may not be great news, but it does mark steady progress in the road project that has the eastbound lane of Janesville Road reduced to rubble and in places, an eight-foot dropoff.

"Weather permitting, the contractor anticipates completing the installation of all storm sewer and water main associated with the current stage of the project by the end of this week," states the city's website.  "They are also anticipating that the majority of the roadway base will be installed this week and that the drainage lines for the area under the new five-foot bike lane on the south side of Janesville Road should also be completed this week."

Starting on Monday June 18, the contractors will focus their attention on the installation of a new box culvert at the stream crossing to the east of Martin Drive.   This work will involve the temporary diversion of the stream to allow for the installation of the new box culvert, the installation of the new box culvert and the removal of the existing box culvert.  This work is necessary because the elevation of the new road is being lowered to improve the sight distance on Janesville Road and improve public safety, according to engineers.

On Friday, June 22, the contractor will close Janesville Road to through traffic to allow for the installation of the box culvert. The closure will be at Martin Drive for eastbound traffic and at Sandalwood Drive for westbound traffic.  Notification signs will be in place concerning the closure of Janesville Road on Monday, June 18.  The closure will be in effect from 7 p.m. on Friday, June 22, until 7 a.m. on Monday, June 25.  In addition to the work on the box culvert, the contractor will also be completing the grading at the Janesville Road and Martin Drive intersection during the Janesville Road closure.  During this time Martin Road will be restricted to one lane of traffic and there may be delays.

During the closure the posted detour will direct traffic to use either Moorland Road or Racine Avenue and proceed to College Avenue and then proceed east or west on College Avenue to either Moorland Road or Racine Avenue and then travel back to Janesville Road.

In addition, Pioneer Drive will be closed to through traffic beginning Wednesday, June 20. Local traffic only - and that does not mean all Muskego residents shortcutting to City Hall from Janesville and vice versa - will be allowed access. We are hoping to hear from the city what the expected duration of this closure will be.
