Janesville Road Taking Shape, Ready for Vehicles Soon

After deep trenches replaced the eastbound lanes of Janesville Road from Lannon Drive to Moorland Road, the roadbed is finally ready for asphalt, and has been paved along the entire eastern stretch.

The county's largest road project to date reached its midway point for the year, and is right on schedule according to Engineer Ed Hinrichs, with the Waukesha County Public Works Department.

What's been happening in the past couple of weeks:

• The contractor has completed the installation of a majority of the curb and gutter on the first phase of the new roadway
• Preliminary installation work for the new street lighting and traffic signals on the south side of the roadway has been done
• Preparation of the south side of the roadway for the installation of the new sidewalk from approximately Moorland Road to Lannon Road. 
• Work has  begun on the restoration of the terrace areas on the south side of the roadway.  Due to the continued hot and dry weather, the contractor will be delaying the installation of the new sod in these areas until later this year when the weather is more friendly to the sod growing. 

On Thursday, installation of the first four inches of asphalt pavement took place, and Hinrichs confirmed that traffic will be diverted onto the roadway before crews apply a final lift. The contractor will need approximately one week to complete the placement of topsoil, paint the traffic lines and do final cleanup and preparation of the roadway before traffic will be able to use the new roadway. 
 
Traffic is tentatively scheduled to be switched to the new pavement on August 6. As always, this is a date based on contractor progress and weather conditions.  Message boards on Janesville will be placed to provide final information approximately one week prior to switching traffic to the new road.

Business access on north side restricted - watch for signs
Once traffic has been switched to the newly built eastbound lanes, access to the businesses located on the north side of Janesville Road will be restricted.

Access from the new eastbound lanes to the businesses will only be possible at:

• Parkland Drive
• Bellview Drive
• Bay Lane Drive
• Martin Road
• the cross-over located near the Muskego Public Library 

The contractor and project staff will work in conjunction with the Muskego Chamber of Commerce to have signage in place that will help direct individuals to the businesses on the north side of the roadway.

As always there will be access to all businesses during construction, but motorists are asked to be patient as there will be delays and inconvenience along the way. 

City officials, the Chamber of Commerce and the construction engineers ask that residents continue to patronize these businesses. Exercise caution and understanding while driving in the work zone, and assist the contractors by following posted access routes and driving slowly in the work zone.
