Know a Great Mom?

With Mother's Day coming up on Sunday, Muskego Patch is hoping you'll share stories (and pictures) of the great moms you know.

I know so many great moms. My grandmother, my mother, my aunts, my sister, many of my friends.

They're amazing, strong women. I've watched them guide their children with loving words, and sometimes a few stern ones. I've seen them give little ones the opportunity to learn to help around the house. They have been generous with their time, and shared their talents with their children.

One of the things I always appreciated about my mom was her strength and perseverence.  She came from a single-parent home when they rarely existed and had to do her share at a young age, but never heard a bitter word from her. In fact, she generally woke us up for school singing, which I have to admit wasn't always appreciated by us kids, but I envied her zest for life, even on dark January mornings.

With a child of my own, I'm more appreciative than ever of the examples of motherhood I've had in my life. I think I've picked my battles wisely, letting my daughter grow into her own person but within a structure.

I too have had to raise her in a single-parent household, just like my mom was raised, but she has pointed out to me what a gift she's gotten as a result. We apparently have a relationship that her friends find amazing, and she said it's the fact that she hasn't been given everything that has made her a better person.
