Lazich Challenger Files Nomination Papers With GAB
Challenger for incumbent Mary Lazich's senate seat says the political climate is right for someone new in the 28th District.

Jim Ward, an Independent from Greendale who is running for Mary Lazich's (R-New Berlin) seat in the 28th State Senate District, announced that he has collected double the maximum number of signatures to get his name on the ballot in November. He turned in his nomination papers to the Government Accountability Board (GAB) on Thursday in Madison to certify his signatures and make his candidacy official.Â
"I want to give my neighbors a choice that they haven't had for eight years in our district," said Ward in a release from his campaign.   “I found that while going door to door many people were eager to sign my nomination papers. I also had great support of dozens of volunteers who collected signatures from neighbors, friends and family."
Lazich has run unopposed in the past two elections, but Ward said he felt the recent state issues may open a door for an opponent in the race.Â

"I found that people on both sides of the political spectrum are upset with the current state of politics in Wisconsin. They are looking for someone who understands the problems that they are facing and want a return to politicians being able to work together to solve problems. I’m just that person because I’m not a career politician," he said. Â
Once signatures are verified, Ward will appear on the November 3 ballot against Lazich.
